Background

Location:

Budapest, Hungary - 15th district

North-Pest Hospital

7,5 hectares

34 buildings (7 protected monuments)

Prepared for the Third World War

The construction began in 1903, when it was set up for heal neurology deseases. The building complex of high-quality health and social services supplemented with other buildings. In 1945, the Soviet army occupied the area, causing considerable damage in the buildings and the park. They were preparing to the third world as they builted a 23,000 m2 surgical block and they used the former buildings for medical purposes. In 1989, they left behind significant damage and in the next 20 years there was no unified will in the ownership and in the interests in development (usually between the local government and the state).

From 2015: reconstruction & new functions

In 2014 the Hungarian government gave the full ownership of the land to the local government, so the project planning could begin. The ambulance station and a local clinic is already operate after recontruction. For the further development we realizable ideas, advocacy, public and professional collaboration is needed. The huge development opportunities are there in the filed of medical, social, and cultural, community and for-profit context. One thing is common in the different sectors: everyone wants to develop the area.

Building No. 14 Cross-Cultural Art Centre

The reconstruction of the complexum can be more than 10 years - we are at the very beginning of a long-term urban development in the heart of the 15th district. Our project aiming to use the art and artistic events as a tool for community development and to invite local residents and future operators to playful meetings and informal conversations getting to know each other and cooperating in the preparation and implementation of the development process.

The complexum is designed for a long-term cross-sectoral cooperation between the health-care, medical prevention, sport, recreation and cultural functions.
